Th e annual EULAR congresses which began in 2000 are today a major event in t he calendar of world rheumatology. The meeting will again provide a unique occasion for the exchange of scientific and clinical information. It shou ld facilitate interaction between patients\, medical doctors\, scientists\ , health professionals and professionals representing the pharmaceutical i ndustry both from Europe and from around the world. You are certainly awar e that participating in the congress is just one element of the annual edu cational package provided by EULAR. Thus in addition\, the participants wi ll have the opportunity to watch virtually all oral presentations through electronic capture and will be provided with a complimentary one-year acce ss to the newest developments and publications in the field of RMDs.\n\nEU LAR has grown rapidly in terms of the number of participants and the quali ty of the submissions. Thus\, more than 4\,300 abstracts were submitted to the most recent congress in Rome and more than 195 sessions and poster to urs were offered. This enormous success reflects the ever increasing inter est in rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) which has been seen i n most societies and is now recognized also by the EU. It also reflects th e availability of increased information on the size\, burden and cost of t hese diseases for society\, and a significantly improved ability to diagno se and treat them. The incorporation of health professional and patient or ganisations within EULAR has been a considerable stimulus for these advanc es.\n\nThe EULAR Congress 2016 in London will once again provide a wide ra nge of topics including clinical innovations\, clinical translational and basic science. In addition there will be significant contributions made by People with Arthritis and Rheumatism (PARE)\, by Health Professionals in Rheumatology (HPR) and by the health care industry. The core science and c entral activity of the congress will be the poster presentations and poste r tours with their highly interactive exchanges between participants. The London meeting will further promote the reputation of the EULAR Congress a s a most innovative and informative venue for clinical research for the pr actising physician. The EULAR EMEUNET organisation of young rheumatologist s also hopes to attract young colleagues to the meeting and will dissemina te the message that rheumatology is one of the most attractive and success ful disciplines of medicine.\n\nThe city of London needs little introducti on. "Tired of London\, tired of life" is a quotation previously used for t he 2011 EULAR congress in London\, and it is even more reinforced by the r ecent accolade of "world city"\, and indicates how ideal a venue this is f or an international meeting such as the EULAR Congress which has truly bec ome a world congress. The elegance of London with its architecture\, galle ries\, theatres and ambience should again provide an excellent background for clinical exchanges\, international collaborations and renewal of frien dships.
