25. EADV 2016

It is my honour and pleasure to welcome you to Vienna for the 25th EADV Congress. Willkommen in Wien, the city that offers a perfect blend between old and new, the city which fully enjoys and embraces its historical past but also celebrates change and welcomes modernity. As the cultural, economic and political centre of Austria and its geographic position within Europe, Vienna is ideally suited to host our event.

The EADV and its Scientific Programming Committee with its Chair Martin Röcken have prepared an excellent programme that is sure to be memorable for all involved. This Congress offers to all a collegial, collaborative and congenial setting in which experts, participants and speakers alike can share their knowledge and learn from one another. Painstakingly designed, this year’s scientific programme has been built from the success of last year, employing varying levels of teaching that enable participants to optimise their session selections and best meet their professional needs. Great care was taken to ensure that we bring both cutting edge speakers, lecturers, and scientists, as well as rising stars in the widest range of relevant topics. From the Plenary Lectures including the ESDR and René Touraine lectures, to the Review and Update sessions, to the Expert Forums, and Free Communications sessions, there is an abundance of opportunities to learn from top experts from Europe and abroad. The Congress will also see a return of workshops, e-Posters, and e-Poster presentations that offer hands-on experience and interactive discussions. As before, we will see a return of Aesthetic Sunday, providing training and updates in aesthetic treatments and surgery. Complementing our own programme, we will continue partnering with European and international societies specialised in the fields of dermatology and venereology as they hold meetings before and after the Congress. Furthermore, the industry will also sponsor and organise high level Satellite Symposia.

In your free time between and after the scientific programme, I strongly recommend you to explore the city of Vienna and its surroundings and decide for yourselves which aspect you like the most: you may be fascinated by the many museums with their countless exhibitions, or relish the opportunity to explore the historical opera houses and concert halls, or be enticed by the city’s gastronomical finesse with its traditional coffee houses, wineries and restaurants. A 10-minute subway ride will take you from the Congress venue directly into the city centre, with many of the cultural, historical and gastronomic highlights within easy walking distance.

I look forward to welcoming you in my hometown and hope that together, we can use the Congress to advance excellence in clinical care, research, education and training in the field of dermatology and venereology in Europe.
